Les deux premiers livres sont consacrés à l'expérience du vide de Magdeburg. On y trouve des lettres qu'Otto von Guericke avait adressées à l'auteur. Puis il rend compte d'expériences sur l'air, la pression, la pesanteur. Le livre 5 décrit des machines hydro-pneumatiques. Dans le livre 6 on trouve un "sous-marin", une cloche à plongeur, avec la relation du premier essai de celle-ci à Toléde... En appendice, est réimprimé l'ouvrage de Kircher: "Specula melitensis encyclica, hoc est syntagma novum instrumentorum physico-mathematicorum." Le livre suivant traite des écritures cabalistiques et autres; le 8e de la quadrature du cercle. Le 9e, "Mirabilia Chronometrica" est un véritable traité d'horlogerie. Dans les deux livres suivants, il s'interroge sur le mouvement perpétuel et présente des machines qu'il n'avait pas encore décrit dans ses autres ouvrages. Enfin, il élucide dans le dernier la Kabale hébraïque. Illustré par un frontispice gravé, un portrait, une planche d'armoiries et 61 planches hors-texte, certaines dépliantes. Much of Schott's treatment of Guericke's work is based upon letters received from Guericke; as Guericke did not publish until 1672, this material is found here for the first time in print.
